What a nicotine pouch habit actually costs

Half a can a day is easy not to think about. Here is the arithmetic, per year and over five, with the calculator so you can run your own numbers.

Nobody decides to spend a thousand dollars a year on pouches. It arrives a can at a time, and half a can a day never feels like a number. So here is the number, stated plainly and aimed at the spend, not at you.

The rough math

A common habit is around eight pouches a day. That is an average for established users from a 2017 to 2018 study, not a rule, and probably not you exactly, but it is a fair starting point. At a ZYN standard price near $4.49 a can of fifteen, eight a day is a bit over half a can daily.

That works out to roughly $874 a year, and about $4,370 over five years. Change the brand, the count, or the can size and the figure moves a lot, which is exactly why the calculator below lets you put in your own.

Reading it without the guilt

Two honest caveats. Prices are list prices at online specialists as of August 2026 and they change, so treat the default as a placeholder. And the eight-a-day figure is an average of heavier, established users, so if you use less, your real number is lower.

The point is not to feel bad about what is already spent. That money is gone either way. The useful version of this number is the one pointing forward: it is the amount that starts coming back the day you begin cutting down, and it keeps counting up whether or not any given day goes perfectly.

Not medical advice. This is general information and a self-help tool, not treatment. Nicotine-replacement therapy is FDA-approved and worth discussing with a clinician.
